Are You Making Daily Deposits to Your Health?

This past weekend was a very stressful weekend to the point that I thought I was going to have a breakdown. I have had a lot going on caring for a loved one and it can be very overwhelming if one is not careful. And why did it get to this point? Because this weekend made me realize one thing that I am asking you today, are you making daily deposits to your health?

This weekend I realized that for some time I had stopped making my usual deposits to my health and when we do this, well, it is only a matter of time till we become bankrupt in terms of health.

Everyday we expect so much from our bodies that we forget that we have to do things on a daily basis to nurture it. We need to make daily deposits to our health because we are constantly making small withdrawals but there are moments in life in which we may have to make a big withdrawal and we will want to have the strength and the leeway to do so. What do I mean with “the leeway to do so”? For instance, if you constantly deprive your body of sleep, constantly eat junk food, are constantly stressed, there is no way that you will be able to afford to make the “big withdrawal” of perhaps missing sleep or messing up with your eating when things are really getting tough in life. Because part of life is the tough times, there will be moments where if you don’t have a plan in hand, your well-being may be compromised perhaps because a loved one is sick, because of a breakup or anything that may be taking up a lot of your energy.

One of the biggest ways you can make great deposits is by making sure you get plenty of sleep. Sleep has its purpose and one of them is that it restores your body. Notice when you get sick, your body craves bed. That is because there are cells that are being replenished, growth hormones are being secreted while you are in deep sleep, memory is also being restored and the list goes on and on as to why it is critical to get a good night sleep.

Eating right for the most part is so essential to your overall well-being and the purpose of eating goes beyond satisfying hunger. Eating for the body is equivalent to you putting gasoline in your car, it serves to fuel the body. So when you give your body the right nutrients, you are feeding it to provide you with energy and strength. Food is basically equivalent to a drug since it does interact with every part of your body since food does affect your mood and thinking as well. Every time that you put in the right foods, you are making small deposits to your health. And if you want to know what I mean with the right goods, you can listen to my talks on my online radio show.

In today’s society it seems like relaxing is a luxury but it is not a luxury, it is a necessity. The more you do, the more you need to relax. Whatever it is that relaxes you, do it on a daily basis. I know for us women sometimes caring for a loved one can make us feel good but it is important to remember that we need to care for ourselves as well. If yoga relaxes you, do it! If reading relaxes you, do it! If exercising relaxes you (I know I feel good after a workout), then do it! But it is essential everyday to do something just for yourself that relaxes you. Relaxing serves as a way to prevent you from becoming too stressed out. Since stress was not meant to be eliminated, we can only manage it and doing things that relaxes you is a way to manage stress.

I can go on and on about ways to make deposits to your health but I think these are the main three that so many of us may struggle with, especially during very difficult times. We live in a society where so many people are sleep deprived, many may not even eat a healthy diet and definitely for many it seems like relaxing isn’t even possible but it is a necessity if you are to have balance in life. I can just tell you from personal experience that making these small deposits daily does add up and can prevent you from going bankrupt (bankrupted meaning low in energy, not in a good mood, etc), especially during difficult times.
