Organization Is a Must For Your Well-being

Try writing speeches, blogs, working on several projects at once among other things and on top of that being jet lagged and what do you get? Overwhelm! That’s what you get. This has been me lately, I confess. As human beings there is only so much that we can do and although we are capable of so much, we must be realistic about our time and energy. I’ve written this before and I’ll write it again. I came to the realization in such a hard way that organization is a must for your well-being.

Being organized helps avoid overwhelm. It is ok to want to do more but you must be organized with what you have to do. So I would like to encourage you to find a way that works for you. Now, this may take time because you may have to try different things before you find what works for you but if you haven’t found a way, don’t give up. Things do take time to adjust and it does take time to find a way that works but trust that you will find that way.

Being organized is what will allow you to get as much done as possible. It is a must to be organized with your time, your energy and your resources. This means that if you are doing one thing, just focus for some time on that one thing before you start doing another thing. For that time slot, you focus your energy as well on that one thing. Focusing your energy on several things at once will not allow you to get anything done.

Being organized allows you to prioritize. It is important to organize yourself mentally in terms of knowing what goes first. Determine what is one thing that if you can get that thing done, it would resolve other things as well. Whatever that is, do that first and once that is done, then work on the next thing.

Being organized diminishes your stress. This doesn’t mean that it will eliminate your stress, I don’t think stress was meant to be eliminated completely since it does serve a purpose but being organized certainly can help decrease it.  Place things in one spot and place it there always, that way you will know where to find it. Have your documents of the same subject stacked together where you can find it. Be organized in your own space so you can feel like you can breathe. Pick out the clothing you will wear the day before. Make sure you leave your house with enough time so that way you are not rushing to get to wherever it is that you have to go. All this is part of being organized.

The reason why I mention being organized in this post is because many of our stresses does come from the fact that we are not organized in our life. We are not organized with our thoughts, our time, our space, our projects, etc. and when this is the case, we actually add unnecessary stress. The more organized you are, the more you accomplish, the better you feel and you can enjoy life more. If you are not organized in an area of your life, I encourage you to do so now for your own well-being.

“It Will All Somehow Get Done”

These past few weeks have been extremely stressful. The last time I’ve been so stressed was when my dad was very ill but this stress, which was brought upon goals that I had set for myself, was certainly not a healthy one. It brought acne to my face, so much that I haven’t seen in a long time, and a body breakdown last week Friday which led to me being in bed all day. I constantly heard a low voice telling me “It will all somehow get done” and had I listened to this inner voice, I don’t think I would have reached that point of stress. It is this that I would like to encourage you in today’s post….no matter what it is that you are trying to accomplish or need to finish doing…it will all somehow get done.

It will all somehow get done, therefore, there is no point in stressing. For what? To stress your body unnecessarily? Raise your blood pressure unnecessarily? Get yourself all out of whack mentally? It doesn’t matter how many goals you have, nothing is more precious than your body so it is a must to relax in the thought that everything will resolve itself.

It will all somehow get done, therefore there is no point in worrying. Worrying is so energy consuming to the point that it paralyzes you. It is actually a low energy vibration so this certainly won’t get you to where you want to go. Worrying robs you of mental and emotional agility, which you need when you have a lot going on.

It will all somehow get done…if you always keep this phrase in your mind, this will help you decrease any negative emotion you may feel due to the overwhelming pressures you may have. As long as you focus on the end result, whatever it is that you want to do, you will see the results of your labor.

It will somehow get done….a powerful phrase, believe it or not, and a way to train your mind and body to not stress itself because of life’s pressure. You were not meant to be stressed to the point of being sick. Enjoy everything you have to do, even the things that are not so pleasant- they are all part of the journey of growing into the person that you are meant to be.

Know Your Limits and Respect Them

Last week and this week, so far, have been challenging weeks between flying a lot and finalizing my manuscript which I must say, I have high respect for editors because editing your own work even after your work has been edited is not easy. It can be challenging juggling many things at once. It is great to have many goals and if I were to list the ones I have at this moment, you would agree that they are a lot. The exhaustion I felt, my eyeballs hurting from all the reading as well as feeling stressed leads me to writing this post- it is important to know your limits and respect them.

No matter how many goals you may have, know that even though the sky indeed is the limit, because you are only human you have certain limits and it is important to respect them. It’s possible to achieve so much, it’s possible to get many things done but not all at once.

Remember that the more you want and do, the more you need to pause, relax, and have breaks. This is not about being lazy, not at all. This is about you not burning out. If you allow stress to get to you, in the end you will be no good. It is important to remember that no matter how many things you want to accomplish, you can only do what you can do and you still need to be proud of yourself for that.

We all have certain limits and this is because we are only humans, not machines. Even machines if they are pushed to the limit they break down. We all have certain limits because of time since we only have 24 hours in a day. We all have certain limits because of our body in the sense that you never want to push your body too far. The best way to not get burned out, not get yourself sick and not be overwhelmed is by knowing your limits and respecting them.

Your body will tell you when you are reaching your limit. If you feel terribly exhausted or even sick, you know you have reached your limit. If you are starting to feel angry and irritable, you are reaching your limit. If you are no longer enjoying what you are doing, you are reaching your limit. You will receive feedback when you are reaching your limit.

You respect your limits by mentally reminding yourself that you are doing the best you can. By still giving yourself a pat on the back for what you have accomplished during the day. You do this by taking breaks when needed and not being so hard on yourself when you didn’t accomplish a certain thing you wanted to accomplish that day. You respect your body when it is tired and give your body all it needs in order to keep itself strong. Remember that your body is your primary vehicle and if that isn’t working, nothing will work. Rome was not built in one day and so whatever it is that you are wanting to do will take time. You will always be a work in progress.

So far I respected my limits by sleeping as much as I needed since my sleep was a bit compromised. Since I enjoy cooking, I made myself some delicious meals. I remind myself that I am doing the best that I can even if I am unable to keep up with some of the things that I had in mind to do, like blog last week. I had to remind myself that I am only human and as such, I am not perfect and that’s ok. It’s ok not to be perfect and not doing things exactly as I said to myself that I would. This is the same that I encourage you to do.

Knowing your limits and respecting them is a must for your well-being. If you try to be superman or superwoman, you will find yourself all burned out real quick. It’s best to be like the tortoise and be slow but steady. That’s how you get further in life. This doesn’t mean laziness, let me clarify, this just means that you don’t burn yourself out trying to do so much all at once.

You Need Cojones!

What I’m about to write will perhaps sound so silly but to me it isn’t because of the meaning that this has for me. I went last month to the Department of Driver Services in Atlanta to get my Georgia State ID without realizing that I had to give up both my NY State ID and my permit. I couldn’t even keep my NY State ID as a memorabilia. As I gave up my ID and permit, I had a mixture of emotions that ranged from shock to sadness to excitement all at once. As I was leaving the DDS with my paper state ID, I realized that to live that life that you want, no matter what it is, you need cojones.

Cojones in Spanish means “balls” so in essence, you need balls or courage to live that life that you want. There are many things that will feel intimidating and most likely that’s because what you’re doing is something new to you. Anything that is new will be intimidating. What you can not allow is your fear of something new stop you from doing what you want to do.

You need cojones to do what you want to do even when others don’t understand why you want to do what you want to do and even if they don’t agree with you. In the end, you are the one living your life, no one is living it for you so you need to do what makes sense to you, not others. The only person that you truly owe any explanation to is to yourself.

You need cojones to dare, to dare to be you, to dare to dream, to dare to leap. There are times that it may not be easy to be your true self but yet it is a must. Who else are you supposed to be if not yourself?! Besides, if you’re not your true self, you don’t attract those that are truly meant to be in your life. There are times that dreaming for some can be scary, especially when they are big dreams but yet we must still dare. You will never know what you are capable of having and being unless you dream and try.

Having cojones is so necessary for your well-being because the frustration of many is the very fact that they may not be living the life that they really want. Living authentically is so crucial to your mental and emotional sanity whether you realize it or not. We all reach a point in our life where we will wonder if we have reached our full potential and if we are all that we can be. So start building up those cojones!

It’s a Must…

Every year we all make new year resolutions. It’s very important to make new year resolutions because they motivate us to get going and to do what we must do to achieve our goals. However, there are certain goals that many of us have in mind to do and yet many seem to either “fail” or give up. I write “fail” in quotation marks because you don’t actually fail, you just learn. Many have the goal of losing weight, of achieving this or that but I would like to write this in today’s post…anything that has to do with your health and well-being then it’s a must.

That’s a phrase I encourage you to use this year. It’s a must to lose weight if your weight is affecting your health. The reason why I write “if it’s affecting your health” is because being “skinny” or fit isn’t the only form of beauty. There are those who have more meat on them and they too are so beautiful in their own way. I believe in weight loss when losing weight will mean better health, not for superficial reasons.

It’s a must to nurture your spirit so if you feel the desire to do this or that then do it. It is a must because having a healthy spirit means a healthy person overall. Everything that we feel, think and do affects EVERY area of our life.

It’s a must to cultivate love. Love for yourself, love for others and if you’re married or have a companion, it is a must both for that person and yourself to cultivate that love in every way.

I can go on and on with this topic on today’s post but the purpose is not to write a long post but to encourage you that instead of making things a goal you make it a must. Musts tend to get accomplished as opposed to wants or wishing.

Do You Really Want What You Say You Want?

We all want so many things in life. Who doesn’t?! We all want financial success, a successful career, success in romantic relationships, etc and it seems like there are many things that we do in order to try to get those things. There are times when not having success at reaching that goal may seem as if we are doing something wrong when everything we are doing is suppose to be right. There are things that I have analyzed about our behavior that makes me question certain things and it is for this reason that I ask you today, do you really want what you say you want?

There is a Spanish saying that says “No es lo mismo llamar al diablo que verlo llegar” which the literal translation is “It is not the same to call the devil than to see him come”. I think this Spanish saying summarizes very well the reason why I ask the question “do you really want what you say you want?”. There are times that we ask for certain things and we seem to want it so much but then when we do get what we want, oppss, we realize we were not ready after all or may have realized that we don’t really want what we say we want or whatever the reason may be that we may be blocking what we want to come to us.

When you make a list of the things that you say that you want, really ask yourself if you really want it. How will this person/thing impact your life? Ask yourself are you really ready and willing to make the sacrifices necessary in order to have what you say you want? You have to be genuinely honest with yourself. This applies to everything in life, whether it be weight loss, a romantic relationship, toning your body, that business you want to build, anything. I will give you examples. If what you really want is weight loss, are you really willing to face your demons that are stopping you from achieving your goal (i.e. if you feel you can’t stop overeating, etc)? Are you really willing to change your diet? Are you willing to incorporate physical fitness into your life? If it’s a romantic relationship that you want, truly ask yourself, are you willing to make time for that new love? Are you willing to dedicate time to that person? Will that person have some priority in your life or are you too preoccupied in your life? If you were to meet the “right one”, would you be willing to give it a chance? Are you creating physical, mental and emotional space for that other person? If you want to tone your body, are you willing to get disciplined to eat when you are supposed to and workout? Are you willing to plan out your meals? If it’s a business that you want to start, are you willing to dedicate the time and energy that it takes to build a business? Are you willing to stick through it even when the going gets tough?

There is truly a lot of inner thinking and being honest with yourself when it comes to the things that you say that you really want. You can’t just want something and then when it comes you chicken out. When this is the case then you never really wanted what you said you wanted. Truly think about what you really want and ask yourself those challenging questions because they will shed some light to you as to what you need to do in order to have the things that you want and it will provide indicators to you as to whether or not you are ready for what you say you want.

What Are Your Resolutions For This New Year?

Ahhhh how nice! Another new year. And with every new year we all have new year resolutions. It’s important to have resolutions for the new year because these are goals that we have in mind to accomplish and a goal is what keeps us moving forward and gives us something to look forward to.

Because some may tend to not accomplish their new year resolutions, I would like to challenge you to look at your new year resolutions in a different way.  Why am I challenging you to look at this in a different way? Because I’ve noticed that for some a new year resolution may seem as something perhaps too grand with no concrete steps to take in order to get to where one may want to go. Also, when one may think of a new year resolution, one may think that if it’s not accomplished or started in January, then perhaps it’s a resolution that one may just drop and forget about it. I would like to challenge you and rather than think of your new year resolutions, think of your goal for this January. By doing this, you are setting a goal to meet this month that will add up to what your goals are for this new year. Once that goal is met, then what is your goal for February and so on. This way your main goal gets broken down to smaller goals until it is something that you can do every day that will get you closer to whatever it is that you want.

Set that intention for that goal that you have. I already wrote about this one key element to getting the things you want out of life by setting the intention on a past post some months ago and I just can’t emphasize enough how important this is to any goal, no matter what goal you may have. From losing weight, to getting the job of your dreams, to having that relationship that you want, setting the intention is key.

Plan out your goals. I also wrote about the importance of planning on a past post because without proper planning, well, you will be setting yourself up for failure basically. Planning is what prepares you in the event of any possible setbacks. Of course, you can’t plan everything out in life but when it comes to goals, planning is crucial.

Another thing I have to add in here that I feel is very important when accomplishing your goals is do not wait to be motivated in order to keep going after your goals. I am one to say that when going after the things that you want in life, you are not always going to feel like doing what you know you have to do in order to reach your goals. For instance, when going to college, there are classes that are required to take, papers that have to be written in order for you to pass the class and you will not always feel like doing these papers but you do them anyways because you have a bigger picture in mind. If you wait until you’re motivated in order to reach your goals, you may find that you may never get yourself started. This is the danger of relying on feeling motivated to reach your goals.

By taking your resolutions for this year and breaking them down to smaller goals, setting the intention of reaching your goals, planning and having the determination to reach that goal so you are not relying on feeling motivated, you will reach those goals that you have for this year. Every goal is possible when taking these steps.
