It’s Important to Laugh at Yourself

I shared this message on the Facebook page, @AuraEMartinezCoach, but I will share it here as well since I think it is a very important message to share.

I would first like to share that Monday, March 4th I went to Cancun, Mexico for a personal development and training event because I truly believe that in order for me to be able to offer the best to you, I have to treat myself with the best and be coached and mentored. The day that I arrived, I was so sleepy since I was already jet lagged. On top of that, I woke up very early for that flight so I hardly slept that night.

Going straight to the chase, I was so out of it that day that when I arrived, I thought I left my room key on the bench that’s in front of the restaurant where I ate that day. It wasn’t until the waiter asked me my room number that I realized, looking in my purse, that I didn’t have the key. So the waiter checked the bench, it wasn’t there. She checked inside the menu the key wasn’t there. At that point I was a bit freaked out at the thought that someone else took the key because I was convinced I had left it on the bench. So I asked the waiter to put the food on hold, which I already ordered, and went to the reception desk to change rooms. That’s when I was given another key to activate the new one and deactivate the old one. When I got to the room because I wanted to activate the new key, the old key that I thought I left on the bench was in the bathroom.

Then for dinner, I went out with my business bestie and when it came time to pay, yes I had pesos but my mind just couldn’t do any conversion anything or anything foreign, again, I was so out of it. So for some reason I didn’t see the 500 pesos bills, I thought they were 100 pesos, didn’t see the 5. The waiter thanked me so much and she was so kind to let me know that she couldn’t accept the tip because it was too high of a tip. That’s when I realized that I had given a $100 dollars tip basically. Yeah, I know!

Theeeennnn, when I arrived to my room, I had all my mini liquids in a Ziploc bag and in it was a clear nail polish. So the bag just slipped out of my hand, fell on the floor and the nail polish broke. So there was clear nail polish all over the little bottles inside the Ziploc bag and the french manicure that I had done got all smeared because of the clear nail polish. There goes my french manicure! And to top it off, I went downstairs in the hotel to the spa place to see if they sell clear nail polish. Well, they had every other color EXCEPT the clear nail polish, of course. At this point at the spa I’m trying on colors that may be close to a clear nail polish and I found one and tried to put some on and as I was doing that, the lady at the spa was like “You can’t do that ma’am because that is for the spa”.

Looking back it was such a comical day. I just laughed the whole day at the whole situation because even though I was in that situation, it was still funny. So the message I want to share with you is that it’s important to learn how to laugh at yourself.

It’s important because life is also about you making a fool out of yourself. It’s about hiccups. It’s about things not going perfect. It’s about disappointments. When you expect things to go exactly how you want them to go, things will go south pretty fast because you will feel that life is not meeting your expectations. Instead, choose to believe and remember that life is ALWAYS meeting your expectations no matter what. Choose to forgive yourself for your mistakes or things not going right. Choose to laugh whenever you make a fool out of yourself. Choose to know that it is ok if you don’t know this or that. And if someone says something stupid, laugh. What other people say is NONE of your business. What other people think is NONE of your business.

The faster you can laugh at all the things that go wrong in your life, the better you will feel about things and things rather than go down, they will start going up. Know that you have a choice in your thoughts and beliefs. Just like I mentioned on my social media, what are you choosing to think and feel today? That matters.

Now I have to mention that if you find that it is a challenge to laugh at yourself when things don’t go right, then there is something else going on that you may not be aware. I can’t emphasize enough how beneficial the FREE course, The Path to Your Nirvana™, will be for you in order to uncover what is stopping you from your unique happiness. Are You Connected With Yourself?

Last year was challenging and scary for me because I got to experience something I had never experienced before. It all started with lightheadedness that lasted for days. Then after days of feeling this way, on my father’s second year since his passing, I experienced what seemed like a panic attack.

A frightened emotion swept me and shook me to the core. I felt it all in my chest. What I had experienced led me to feeling lightheaded again the next day. I had to go to the doctor for the second time. The irony of it all is that everything physically is fine. But I knew I wasn’t fine.

Days passed and I felt sadness. All this led me to think something was seriously wrong. A friend of mine told me that he thinks this is psychosomatic. I thought he may just be right. Then I realized something that I just need to share.

I came to the realization that NO ONE is immune to feeling sad or anxious, even the strongest person can fall prey to this. Then in the wake of Kate Spade’s news of her passing and what some say that she had suffered from depression and anxiety I came to a conclusion. I am pretty sure that depression, anxiety, any of the strong, negative emotions, that then one experiences physically, is a disconnection from the self and the divine.

In this blog post, I want to encourage and remind you that you are STRONGER than you think you are! You are SMARTER than you think you are! You are LOVED more than you can possibly imagine! You are FORTUNATE! You are HEALTHY! You are WHOLE!

It is the belief that you are none of these things that can lead to physical manifestations and illnesses. It is the belief that you are not enough, your daily habits, the people that you surround yourself by, the thoughts and feelings you have, your perception of your experiences, you not feeling ALL of your emotions, including grief, all this can lead to ailments.

The one relationship that must be solid in order for you to be healthy mentally, emotionally and physically is the one with yourself. Always make sure to be connected with yourself. How do you do that? You do that by being aware of how you feel. Be aware of what you feel drawn to do or see. Be aware of how things make you feel. Be aware of what your soul asks you to do. Then honor your soul. Whatever makes you feel down, know that you feel that way for a reason and that reason is that whatever it is that makes you feel that way is not a match to who you really are.

Anything that you feel do not ignore. Don’t make objects more important than your health. Do things every single day that makes you happy. Honor your soul by making it happy. You go first because unless you make yourself happy, you can’t make anyone else happy. You are constantly receiving guidance; don’t ignore it. Learn to trust it. It is the trusting that will lead you to a great life.

Connect yourself to your body. Pay attention to the way it feels. You are a soul living a human experience. Your body is the vessel that your soul chose to reside in. Your body is sending you feedback from your soul as well. Pay attention to that. Honor it. Once again, learn to trust the message your body is giving you.

I hope this post encourages you to start trusting yourself and to connect to yourself every single day. Remember that you are NOT the labels that society may place on you. Choose your own labels. Your labels should be “I am HEALTHY”, “I am LOVE”, “I am SMART”, “I am ENOUGH”, “I am GUIDED”. You are always guided. Believe that. Know that you are never alone. These are the labels that will add great well-being to your life and help you connect with yourself.

Why a Healthy Dose of Selfishness Is Necessary?

Ahhhh selfishness. We were taught at a young age not to be selfish. It seems nowadays that we are taking this selfishness way out of hand to the point that it is being taken to the extreme where some don’t take at all in consideration other people. Since when has selfishness been taken out of context?!

The truth is that for your well-being, a healthy dose of selfishness is necessary. I dare to say it is not only necessary for you but for others as well. If you don’t take care of yourself first, you can’t take care of others. Flight Attendants show passengers on their safety demo that in case of a decompression, don your oxygen mask FIRST before helping others. Notice how I capitalized the word first. This is to put emphasis on how you need to help yourself first. This is because unless you help yourself first, you can’t help others.

The kind of selfishness that I am referring to here is not the kind where it is all about you and only you. It is not the one where you don’t care at all about others. It is not the one where you disregard others completely. This is NOT to be taken to the extreme.

The healthy dose of selfishness that I am referring to here is the one where you take your emotions into consideration. You don’t do things that don’t feel right to you just to make others feel good. A healthy dose of selfishness takes your mental state into consideration. For instance, a situation that drives you insane, no matter how much you love the person or how much you want to be there for them, for your own good, you minimize your energy and time in the situation because you want to preserve your mental sanity. A healthy dose of selfishness takes into consideration your physical state. Anything that jeopardizes your physical state you avoid no matter what, or at least try to minimize whatever it is that jeopardizes your physical state.

We are taught to give, give, give but constant giving without receiving will wear you out so quickly. Not only that, you will be giving not from a place of love but from a place of obligation and this only leads to feelings of resentment and anger. In order to sincerely give, you must receive. And the first person you must receive from is you. You need you. You need you always!

If you don’t take care of your own basic needs, if you are not selfish enough to make sure your cup is more than full, as a matter of fact, it should be overflowing. That way you can give from the overflow. In this way you will not feel depleted energetically.

A healthy dose of selfishness is an act of love from yourself. It is also an act of love for others. Think about this, when you feel good, don’t you only want to give good to others? When you are well taken care of, don’t you then feel better about taking care of others? When you are so in love, don’t you then see everything with eyes of love?

To get to this state, you need to do you. When you have a healthy dose of selfishness, this is exactly what you are giving yourself- the love, attention and care that you deserve. A healthy dose of selfishness will make your inner self feel taken care of, so you won’t feel any abandonment issues, no neglect, no resentment, no anger.

So if you have been neglecting yourself in any way, if you have been only taking care of others without you giving yourself the time to take care of you, I would like to invite you to have a healthy dose of selfishness. Start now taking care of your needs. Start now to listen to yourself. Start now to have this act of love for yourself. You deserve it.

Comparisons Hurt You

In today’s post, I would like to encourage you not to do comparisons- don’t compare yourself to others nor compare yourself to who you were a few years ago- and will explain why.

First off, everyone’s journey is unique. We all are different and we came here for different reasons and with different things to contribute to this world. Because of this beauty of all of us being unique, it kills our well-being to be comparing ourselves to others.

Comparing yourself to others is like driving and rather than looking ahead, you are looking to the side out the window for a really long time. What happens if you drive this way? You’re going to crash and hurt yourself badly. God forbid the crash can even be deadly. Well, same thing can happen when you constantly compare yourself to others and rather than looking at your own journey, you are looking at what someone else is doing, how they are succeeding, etc. You miss all the goodness there is to your life and you can crash and hurt yourself badly because you are not looking ahead.

Comparing yourself to others is very distracting. It distracts you by fooling you into thinking that you are not where you are supposed to be. It distracts you from looking at all the lessons that you have to learn from your own experiences. It distracts you from seeing your own beauty, your own uniqueness, and it distracts you from what the universe has for you.

Comparing yourself to others can block you. It blocks your own flow which is unique to only you. How so? Well, if you are seeing how well someone else is doing and you would like something similar for yourself, perhaps you are meant for something similar but not in the same manner that they went about it. If you are looking at how others do things, you may be fooled into thinking that you must do things exactly the way they do it in order for you to experience something similar. What if things are supposed to turn out even better for you? What if there is a different, more fun way that aligns to how your true essence is? You won’t know any of this if you keep comparing yourself to others.

You can’t even compare yourself to where or how you were a few years ago. This can be very bad if you are not aware of this. My dad passed away, this year it will be three years ago since he passed away. During these past two years, I gained some weight. For a minute, I was being hard on myself for allowing myself to gain the weight because I worked so hard for so long to have the body that I had. That’s when I needed to stop myself from comparing myself to who I was even 4 years ago. Things back then was different and I needed to understand that I was now in a grieving moment; in a moment where I had to deal with several emotions and changes that if that is not dealt with properly, then it will manifest itself in other ways, in my case, it was weight gain.

Because I stopped comparing myself to the old me, I am happy to share that I have been able to pick up from where I was before and I have been losing weight. But this time it’s different because I truly am appreciating this journey and dealing more with my emotions of losing my dad. This is why comparisons can be so harmful because as human beings, we are always evolving and it’s important to take notice of that and accept it.

If you have been finding yourself in that trap of comparing yourself to others or even to who you once were, I would like to invite you, for the sake of your own well-being, to stop that at once. Know that you are beautifully and wonderfully made. You don’t have to compare yourself to anyone. The reality is that there is no comparison. There is none. You are you and there is no one like you.

I also would like to invite you to take the FREE course I created called The Path to Your Nirvana™, which is a 28 day course with 5 steps meant to help you live your own happiness by understanding first what is getting in the way of you being on your own path of happiness, how to overcome it, learning to understand your actions and focus and getting you to the path that your true essence has in store for you. You Need Mostly of Yourself

As human beings, we naturally have a need to feel needed and loved by others. That is totally normal, however, despite the fact of you needing others, the person that you need the most is yourself.

You need mostly of yourself because it is you who provide yourself with your own love. It is you who truly know the kind of love that you need. It is you who set the standard for the way others treat you. It is you who allow things into your life. It is you who let others know that they need to respect you.

The reality is that everything comes from within you, not outside of you. When you can realize this, you will see and know that the love that you truly need is within you. Yes, we need others. Yes, others do play a role in our life. Yes, the love of others is very important but even more so is the love that you have for yourself.

Don’t believe that this is true? Well, just see for yourself how you can tell someone so many times that they are wonderful or beautiful or handsome but if they themselves don’t believe it, your words won’t matter. That’s because the words that matter most are our own words. The thoughts that matter most are our own thoughts. The judgment that matters most is our own judgment. You are indeed the center of YOUR universe.

How can you reach within you for that love that you need? What can you do in order to get what you need from yourself? How can you even get yourself to believe that this is even true? The best way is to do an assessment of your life. Where are you at the moment? Why do you think you are in this place at the moment? What contributed to you being where you are now in life? If you do a deep analysis, you will notice that you are in the middle of it all. That’s because you are the one in control of your own life. You are the one with all the power in your life.

I know how challenging this can be and this is why I created a FREE course so that you can learn how to find your own happiness and have that well-being that you are striving for called The Path to Your Nirvana™. You can sign up for this FREE course by clicking https://bit.ly/2QbBZW4 and putting in your name and email and choosing which language you would like the freebie. This is about you getting clarity as to what to do in order for you to start experiencing your nirvana, uncover what stops you from living your nirvana and how to move past that; develop an awareness of how you are currently living and how that may be contradicting how your true essence wants you to live. I chose the word nirvana because it means the ideal place to be and perfect happiness. This is about teaching you how to get to your ideal place in life where you can experience perfect happiness. Perfect happiness is possible in the sense that there is perfection in the imperfection.

So with today’s post, I would like to encourage you to realize that you need mostly from yourself. You are the most important person in your life. You are the center of your universe. You need mostly of your love in order to move forward in life. Remember that you need mostly of yourself.

Don’t Try to Be Superman or Superwoman

Many of you may have noticed that I have been away from blogging for a while. Well, there was a reason for that. I have been working on several projects that were taking up my time that I needed to take some time off but that doesn’t mean that I forgot about you all.

Having many goals is great because it gives you things to look forward to and something to strive for. However, I can also tell you that trying to do so much all at once will exhaust you faster than you can possibly imagine. So in today’s post, I would like to encourage you, for your well-being, despite all the goals that you may have, don’t try to be superman or superwoman.

This is not to say that you shouldn’t go after your goals or that you should slack on your goals. On the contrary, if you want to be able to reach your goals successfully, you need to not try to do it all at once because rather than add to your well-being, that will take away from your well-being.

“But Aura, there is so much that I would like to accomplish and do” you may say. There is nothing wrong with wanting to do so much and accomplish a lot. The problem is when you want to do it all at once, trying to be superman or superwoman.

My one piece of advice for the beginning of this year is to think of a theme for this year. What is one main theme that you would like to focus on? For instance, mine for this year is weight loss. Yes, ever since my dad’s passing, it has been quite stressful for me and I have been grieving and I did put on some pounds so one of my main themes is self-care which includes in this case weight loss.

Then think of some other things that are also priorities for you that you would like to accomplish and ask yourself why. Write this all down. Why do you want to accomplish this and what does it mean to you? Think about what is one thing that you can do each day to get closer to that goal. This way you know what you can’t compromise with.

So I will give you an example and I will use myself as an example. Since self-care, which includes weight loss, is a priority and theme for me this year, this will include several things such as planning my meals, working out, minimizing stress (stress can cause weight gain), among other things. So as you can see, it’s not like weight loss is the only focus here. There are other things that I will be taking care of because I have that goal of losing weight. By having all these priorities straight, I will know what I can add to my life or take away from my life, what to add to my calender and what not to add.

This will also mean that I will not try to be superwoman. Whatever I can’t get done, I can’t get done and that’s it. By having a main theme for myself, this eliminates me trying to be superwoman and trying to do it all and the benefits of this are many. You avoid stressing yourself too much. You avoid getting sick since stress can suppress the immune system. You avoid feeling frustrated since at times having too much to do can frustrate us and the list goes on.

My highest recommendation when having new years resolution, once again, is to have a theme for this year. What do you want this year to be about for you? What is one top thing that you would like to accomplish? What does accomplishing this goal entails? Write this all down and even know and write down your why. Knowing your why will be your driving force for those times when you don’t feel like doing whatever it is that you need to be doing in order to achieve your goals. Also, having this theme in mind will help avoid you trying to be superman or superwoman.

It is my desire that you always live to the max the way you are destined to live and it is for this reason that I would like to share that I created a  FREE course called The Path to Your Nirvana™, which is designed to help you get out of your own way of your greatest well-being by getting you to understand what is getting in your own way and how to change that. Is It Possible to Still Be Unhappy Although One Has Everything to Be Happy?

What makes me write this post is the fact that still my most read post is the one about why good people get the short end of the stick which if you read it,  you will learn that it’s not that good people get the short end of the stick, it’s their view of the situation that makes them feel that way.

So to answer this question, is it possible to still be unhappy although one has everything to be happy and the answer is “yes” and I will state why. This is because there is something that is specific to you that makes you feel empty. I think there can be many reasons as to why someone can feel unhappy despite all they have. Some may even argue that one doesn’t have any right to be unhappy if they have everything. I beg to differ and this is because everyone’s emotions are to be respected and it is that person’s responsibility to evaluate what they are feeling so that they can understand what their soul is trying to say to them.

When feeling unhappy despite having “everything”, I would like to encourage you to do your best to understand what your soul is trying to tell you. That emotion is not coming out of nowhere and that is not something for you to ignore. Ask yourself, “what would make me happy right now?” “What do I feel is missing in my life?” Do your best to get to the understanding of where this emotion is coming from.

It is not everything nor having everything material wise that makes us happy. Those things can make us happy to a certain degree. They can satisfy a certain dream or goal we have but they are not what ultimately make us happy.

One thing I must mention in this blog post is this- please be aware that holding on to a dream that includes someone else or something else can make us very unhappy. It can make us stuck, angry, resentful and all those negative things that none of us have any business feeling. Also, holding on to things that have ended can also make us terribly unhappy.

Pay attention to what it is that you are focusing on, the people that you are surrounding yourself with, your thoughts, etc. since there are many things that can cloud us from seeing all the goodness in our life. Everything matters when it comes to happiness. What are the relationships that you allow in your life? How do you feel about where you are in life? What are the things that you feel are lacking in your life?

These are just questions to get you thinking if you find yourself right now feeling unhappy despite having so much to be happy. With this post, the purpose is to bring to light the things that bring you down, bring to your consciousness what it is that is not right that you can change.

So with this blog post, I would like to encourage you to start thinking about the things that bring you down despite all that you have to be happy and start thinking what you will do to change that. The feelings you have are not for no reason. There is a purpose to what you are feeling, it’s just a matter of understanding your emotions so you can make the changes necessary for your life.
