After I voted last week, as I was waiting for my friend to pick me up so we can have brunch together, I decided to get on the swing for a bit. As I got on the swing, I started to feel like a child again. I always loved swings and the feeling of being in one reminded me of how free of worries we are, free of fears, how daring and persistent we can be as kids. Somehow along the way as we get older, we learn to be the opposite of what we were designed to be all our life. We learn to be fearful, cautious, we give up when we fail, we listen to messages and advice that goes against our true nature and because of this, I want to encourage you to go back and be like a child.
Be like a child and never give up trying no matter how many times you have to try. There may be those along the way who will try to ridicule you for your efforts, who will ridicule you and ask “who are you to be or have the thing you want?”. There will be those who will make fun of you for trying. As a matter of fact, the laughable ones are those who do not try because in the end, they will have regrets for those things that they didn’t do. Those who ridicule you will always wonder what could have been. Zig zagging is part of the process. Sometimes even pausing for a moment is still part of the process. It doesn’t matter the speed as long as you never give up until you reach your goal.
Be like a child and don’t allow fear to stop you. EVERYTHING can be frightening. That’s because everything that is new and unknown can make one feel uncomfortable. Fear of being hurt, oh this is another one. I was falling for this one but the mistake with allowing this to rule you is that you close yourself up to wonderful possibilities. Any hurt is something to learn from and grow and not take personal. If an issue is created as a result of a hurt, then work on it. The only way to truly enjoy life is to remain open to the wonderful possibilities, something kids are so good at doing.
Be like a child and be stubborn enough to want what you want if that’s what your heart so desires and stop listening to other people’s voices. What do others know? They are not the one living your life for you. You are the one living your own life so you owe it to yourself to listen to your heart’s desires.
Ah the swing…so glad I got on it to be reminded of the feeling of being a child, the feeling of being free of the things that holds us back as adults and the reminder of being open to the wonders of life. Now I want to encourage you to do the same.

Perhaps many don’t want to miss things. We don’t want to really miss the one we love, we long for certain experiences or places, we long for certain feelings. However, believe it or not, there is is value in the missing and this is what today’s post is about and as you keep reading, you will notice how this ties to your well-being.
Missing something or someone provides important elements to your well-being, one of them being appreciation. We tend to appreciate what we don’t have or what we lack. This is why it is great to miss. Think about this for a moment, if you have the person that you love with you 24/7, overtime you end up taking that person for granted. This is why it is important to give each other space to miss each other because you will end up appreciating that person more.
Missing something or someone helps you see the value in certain things in your life. The reason for this is because what missing helps create is distance and it is that distance that helps you see things from another perspective. For instance, going to your job all the time without any time off can make you feel fed up with your job. However, you give yourself some distance away from it and you can appreciate all that your job provides for you that goes beyond the monetary and this is just one example of many.
Missing something or someone helps create balance and this is because as an Italian saying goes “too much is the same as too little”. It is this missing factor that helps balance the “too much” part. You need that distance apart from everything and everyone so that you can appreciate. You need to know how it feels like not to have that thing or person for a while for you to be grateful and happy once that thing or person comes back.
Well-being is about balance, appreciation, living fully and happiness. Missing something or someone seems to add these very things that we need by providing us with that space and distance that we need in order for us to truly appreciate what we have and have a different, healthy perspective in life.

Today as I’m sipping on my favorite brand of tea “Yogi tea”, I read the message that comes with the tea and it reads “Uplift others and uplift yourself”. The part that caught my attention was the “uplift yourself”. With so much that is going on in my life, it can be quite a challenge to uplift myself as I am sure that it is the same for others as well and so I thought of this importance after I read this.
There will be times in your life where others may not necessarily be there to uplift you and this is why it is very necessary to learn to uplift yourself. In the same way that you would encourage others, you need that same encouragement from yourself. “But how can I uplift myself when I have so much going on?” you may ask and what I can share is what I do on a daily basis to uplift myself.
I am aware that everyone’s belief may be different and I respect everyone’s belief and outlook in life so you can take the following advise in a way that suits you. I believe that prayer is one of the greatest ways to uplift yourself. There is something that I can not explain but that truly helps when you need encouragement.
Have faith or the belief that things will change and be better. That belief or faith helps you feel and think differently. It helps change your outlook on the situation. Without the belief or faith that things will be better, you will feel a heavy burden in you that just feels as if it’s dragging you down. This places weight on you that reflects everywhere you go.
Don’t forget to do things that make you happy. For everyone this will be different. For some it is reading, for others it is yoga, or perhaps going for a walk. It is crucial for you to do something that cheers you up because this helps you to relax. It is in a relaxed state that we can accomplish more and endure more.
Remember that you are loved. I think it is easy when one is going through so much or feeling sad or overwhelmed to think that they are lonely. Thinking in this manner just creates negative emotions within you that just doesn’t help. Remember that there are those who love you, who are influenced by you and who also depend on you. Knowing this will help you gain some strength since love is an empowering feeling.
These are just some of the many things that you can do to uplift yourself whenever you need encouragement. We sometimes tend to be so good at being there for others that we forget that we also need to be there for ourselves. This is part of taking care of yourself in order to ensure your well-being.
About two weeks ago I spoke with a good friend of mine and after she shared with me how wonderful her weekend was, I shared with her something that got me all worked up. It was something of no importance in comparison to the grand scheme of things but at the moment of that (what irritated me) happening, I couldn’t help but feel that way. This makes me wonder how many of us get so worked up over meaningless things that are not even worth our energy.
I write this post because just like the way I felt that day, I bet many other people feel that way only on a constant basis. If this is the case, it is crucial to see the bigger picture. When you allow yourself to get caught up on the day to day things that happen, you can lose sight of the bigger picture. And what is that bigger picture? The bigger picture means whatever that bigger picture is for you since it can mean different things to different people. The bigger picture that I think is so universal to everyone is knowing that at the end of the day, whatever made you angry is really nothing. Remembering that there are bigger things that matter most like family, your true friends, having health, having stability whatever that stability is for you.
By allowing yourself to get all caught up on the day to day things, you are robbing yourself of health. How so? Every time you get so worked up over little things, you waste your precious energy that you can be utilizing towards more productive things. Every time you get angry, your body changes and not in a good way. It is hard to focus on the positive when all you see is that one thing that irritated you.
One thing that I would like to clarify is that I am not saying to ignore what you feel or act like what bothers you doesn’t bother you. You are human after all and as a human being, you are an emotional being as well so it is only normal and natural to get angry or annoyed sometimes. It is important to feel your emotions but not let your emotions rule over you.
By seeing the bigger picture, you don’t allow yourself to get caught up on the day to day stuff that can be sometimes irritating and this is because you have in the front of your mind what really matters to you. By seeing the bigger picture, you allow the things that don’t matter to just slide down and not get to you. Someone said that every morning he puts butter all over him from head to toe, that way nothing sticks to him and I just love this analogy. It is something to do mentally every morning because the truth is that there will be things that will irritate you but it is not worth to allow that to get to you. For your overall well-being, it is important to learn to see the bigger picture and not allow things that don’t really matter get to you.

On this day of Christmas, but not just Christmas, everyday it should be this way, it is important to live with gratefulness. Gratefulness for having your loved ones with you. Grateful that you have shelter. Grateful that you have a job, if you have a job. Grateful for any good that is in your life. Life is way too short to stress the small stuff.
Be loving all the time. You do this by being kind to others, by smiling at others, by speaking nice words to others, by reminding those you love how much you love them. Don’t ever take for granted how important this is. Love is what truly makes the world go round. Many say money makes the world go round and money is important for certain things like paying rent, bills and food. But without love, you truly have nothing. It’s important to have love for others, love for life, love for yourself, love for what you do, etc. This emotion truly is the most powerful emotion that there is.
The most precious gift you can ever give to others is your sincere love and friendship. I believe that sincere friendship is so healing to the heart, mind and soul. Christmas is not about the physical, material presents nor should love and appreciation be shown only during this time. It is all the time that we must show love towards others. There is nothing like you spending time with people you love and that love you back.
This post may seem like it has nothing to do with well-being but it does. If only we can be more grateful for all we have, if only we can be more loving all the time, if only we can cultivate healthy, loving relationships, I think our happiness level would go up. Lack of love, lack of gratitude, lack of quality relationships are detrimental to our health. I believe that the lack of these things lead to spiritual poverty.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas full of health, happiness and love!
