Overwhelmed: A Plague to Your Well-being

Feeling overwhelmed can be very disabling and it is precisely for this reason that I must discuss this on this blog.

Well-being is about joy, balance, harmony, good energy and loving life. Feeling overwhelmed takes away from all this and that’s when ailments can start. If you are feeling sick, tired most of the time, mentally clouded and a lack of purpose and joy, ask yourself if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

There are many reasons one can feel overwhelmed, one of them being having so much to do. I do want to emphasize that feeling overwhelmed is not equivalent to being busy. A good friend of mine, Dawn, brought up a very important distinction during one of our conversations and it is this- being busy isn’t equivalent to being productive. Why do I feel it is important to mention this? Because perhaps your feeling of overwhelm comes from being busy of not being productive.

When feeling overwhelmed, it is important to understand the cause. Is it all the responsibilities that you have that causes this feeling? If so, why? Is it that there are changes that you want to occur? If so, what are these changes? Is it a relationship that you currently have that makes you feel overwhelmed? If so, why is that?

Many times the feeling of overwhelm comes from some dissatisfaction that we currently have and are not aware of it. This is why I have stated over and over again that it is important to pay attention to your emotions. It is important to embrace them. They are feedback from your soul. By ignoring your emotions, you are ignoring important information from your true essence.

When feeling overwhelmed it is important to embrace it, sit with it and understand it. Once you take the time to understand it, you will know what steps to take in order to feel better.

So if you are currently feel overwhelmed, I want to encourage you to embrace it, sit with it and understand it. Don’t avoid feeling this way because otherwise you will be missing on important info that can lead to greater change and well-being.

Start Applying That Butter!

There are times when it will feel as if you can’t help but get frustrated at everything and everyone around you. There will be times when you will feel mentally and emotionally overwhelmed. There are certain times in life when it feels as if it’s hard not to avoid feeling irritated at things or people. It is times like these that you may wonder “what is the key to not letting things bother you as much?!” There is one answer to this and it’s something that a colleague and a friend of mine, Henry, told me years ago and it’s this- start applying that butter!

“Start applying that butter?!” you may be thinking and saying. Yes, start applying that butter all over your body, not physically but mentally. Mentally you are going to imagine yourself applying butter all over your body from head to toe. The key is to not allow anything to stick to you for too long. Butter is slippery so by applying that butter, you allow anything that tries to touch you to slide right through you. You have to make sure to apply that butter from head to toe. Of course you’re not going to really apply butter on you, that is why you will do this mentally.

It is best to apply the butter first thing in the morning that way you arm yourself. You want to make sure you start your day right so this is why you want to do this in the morning. I think it’s best to do before you get out of bed, just mentally visualize yourself applying butter all over your body. What you are doing with this is mentally preparing yourself to not let things get to you. Remember, this first starts in the mind. Your most powerful weapon is your mind and so when your mind is armed and loaded with powerful affirmations and thoughts, you face the world prepared.

A vulnerable mind is like a skin that has a wide open wound- it makes itself susceptible to harmful bacteria and infections. With “harmful bacteria and infections” I am referring to negative words that others may have, other people’s bad attitudes that we allow ourselves to take personal, other people’s drama and so on. Harmful bacteria and infections, if left untreated, can become deadly for the body- likewise, “harmful bacteria” and “infections” that we allow in our minds can become deadly, killing our chances of living a fulfilled life.

When I heard this phrase several years ago, I couldn’t help but love the phrase and apply it to my life. Now I encourage you to apply this into your life. Wake up every morning applying that butter on you so that anything that tries to touch you can just slide right through you.

What Determines the Choices That We Make?

Last week I wrote about how it all comes down to our choices but what is it that determines the choices that we make? Well, that’s what I would like to write about in today’s post.

There are many factors that influence the choices that we make. Two big ones are our feelings and our mind frame at the time that we make our choices. We are emotional beings and as emotional beings, we are highly influenced by how we feel and that plays a big role in the decisions that we make. When you feel down, needy, or you are coming from a place of emptiness, of course you won’t make the right choices. When you are tired or stressed, you are most likely to choose foods that are sugary or the bad carbs. When you feel lonely and needy or don’t feel so good about yourself, you are most likely to choose people that are no good for you. Likewise, when you feel good and relaxed, you are most likely to choose healthy foods. When you feel good about yourself and feel a sense of fullness, you are most likely to choose people that are good for you. This is the power of emotions.

Your mind frame also plays a huge role in the choices that you make. The wrong mindset can attract even your worst nightmare. It will feel as if you are a magnet for bad things and in essence, when your mindset is wrong for you, indeed you do attract the wrong things. It’s not that you necessarily attract it, but it is as if you can not filter what is bad for you. When your mindset is not right, of course your emotions won’t be right. Everything is connected, therefore, where your thoughts are, your emotions will follow as well. The wrong mindset can lead you to thinking that what you would like is not possible, leading you to make the wrong choices. However, when your mindset is right, you will find yourself looking at the possibilities of things no matter how hard something may seem.

When making a decision, it is important to understand your reason behind that decision and the consequences of that decision. Everything has consequences whether they are good or bad. Consequences are nothing more than the results that we get from every action we take.
