Give Your Past More Value

“Give your past more value?”, you may be wondering. We have always been taught to leave the past behind and indeed we need to leave the past behind but we should leave it behind AFTER we have given the past it’s value. It is this that I would like to discuss in today’s blog post.

The way to give your past more value is by extracting all the lessons you have to learn from the experience and believe me, there is more than one lesson from that experience. This is not to be confused with living in the past. This is NOT about living in the past. It is not healthy nor will it allow you to move forward if you live in the past. The past should be lessons for you. Lessons for you to be a better person. Lessons for you to mature into the person that you were designed to be. Lessons for you to know where to focus your point of attraction. Lessons for you to know what areas of you need to change. Lessons for you to see where you can growth.

The more lessons you try to extract from your past experience, the more value that past will have. Try to see what is the contrast that you had to experience and why. For instance, if you came from a bad marriage, what did you learn from that marriage? What did that partner teach you? What lacked in that marriage? Now take all this and think of the opposite. What kind of marriage do you want? What qualities would you like your next partner to have? What would you like to feel in this next marriage? I’m just using marriage as an example.

When you do your best to extract all the lessons from your past, you don’t allow it to make you a damaged goods. When you do, this is when you allow the past to determine your future and that is not the purpose of your experiences. Think of your experiences as pieces of a puzzle- they help piece out the puzzle of your life and all those pieces which are experiences just add to the bigger picture of your life.

By extracting all the lessons from the past, you are empowering yourself. You are in the driver’s seat of your experiences. You learn to master your mind, emotions and your life. The reason why I write that you learn to master your mind, emotions and your life is because it can be easy to let the past mess us up even more, be critical of ourselves and trip again if we don’t do our part to just accept the things that happen and learn all that we can from the past. Also, history tends to repeat itself so if you want to avoid repeating the same experiences, give your past more value. This will add tremendously to your well-being.

The Positive and Negative of Everything

I’ve been pondering and asking myself why for many great things there has to be a negative to it. I’m working out this morning and although I love to workout and I’m helping my health with that, my hair has to be a nice mess afterwards. It makes me feel as if I have to choose between my body or my hair. Same thing with other decisions that I have to make, there are positives and negatives to everything. It makes me wonder why this is and this is what today’s post will be about.

I think one of the best comparisons to describe how life functions is a battery- it has a positive and a negative side. The battery, in order to function the way it is supposed to, needs both sides. If both sides are positive or negative, it just can’t work right. For as much as we would like for life to just have the positive, it can’t function if there is no negative.

So what’s the purpose of having both in our life? They both help balance each other out. This goes with everything in life. You can’t understand what true happiness is unless you know what sadness is. You can’t fully comprehend what true abundance is until you experience lack. You don’t fully appreciate your body until you get sick. You don’t fully appreciate the role someone plays in your life until you miss them. Certain places have to have their own downside because otherwise if it were to suite everyone, there would be a problem whether that problem is a place being overpopulated or very stressful, etc. This is what having the good and the bad can do, it can balance things out.

Balance is what contributes to your well-being and this is key. You need both sides in order to balance out your life. It is through balance that things can work in harmony. Nature intended it to be that way.

Having the negative along with the positive can bring out the creative side in us. This is because the negative can make you look for solutions as to how to a handle a situation. For example, I have to be creative with my hair in order to make it look nice after I workout. Certain things force the creative side of you and that is great.

So, if nature intended it this way, how can one handle the positives and the negatives when making certain decisions? When it comes to making decisions, you have to see what weighs more for you. It’s a matter of knowing who you are and knowing what matters most to you.

When it comes to cases where the negatives of something highly impacts your well-being, if it’s a decision that you made to have that positive in your life but it comes at a high price, then you have to mold yourself to the negative. What I mean with this is to find a way to work around the negative. For instance, if it’s a job that affects your health due to odd hours of work, then create your life and make a schedule that can still fit your job. The point is that you want to work with what you have and make the most of it.

Life indeed is like a battery with its positive and negative sides and both are needed in order for things to work in harmony. Both sides are needed in order to have balance in life. I encourage you to start looking at everything from this perspective.

The Need For Human Contact

Nowadays, it seems as if technology is replacing the human contact we used to have and this is all across the board. You see this in stores where little by little you no longer need a cashier to charge for your items. There are machines where you can scan the items of purchase yourself, follow the directions and pay either with cash or credit card. You see this over the phone when calling a company, rather than a human being responding to the call, it is a machine giving you options to prompt you to dial a number not once, not twice, more often than not more than three times before you even speak to a human being. And now this is also spilling over to dating where you are not really dating the person you are with because their attention is also on chatting with someone else over the phone while out on a date with you. I wonder where we are heading as a society with all this technology replacing what is not replaceable and that is human contact.

In a world that is becoming more stressful and where it almost feels as if we are more distant from each other, having human contact is essential. It is that human contact that makes us feel that we are all connected. It is that human contact that makes us feel like we are cared for. We were meant to connect with one another. Technology is such a great thing because it allows us to get close with those that are physically far from us. On the other hand, because of the misuse of technology, this has distanced those that are close by.

My advice to combat that is to start cultivating those positive relationships that you have. Start by spending time with your kids, parents, good friends, etc. Give them your undivided attention when you do spend time with them. Paying attention to something else while being with them doesn’t count. Giving them your undivided attention makes them feel like you are truly there with them and that the time you spend with them matters. When you cultivate healthy relationships, you will notice your inner void or hunger for love dissipating. To receive love you must give love.

Another way of combating this lack of human contact is by being kind and smile at others even if you don’t know them. We are all connected one way or another and what we do to others does come back to us. When you are kind and smile at others, the world smiles right back at you. The gift of your smile can go a long way and can even make someone else’s day. Your kindness can melt a hard heart. It’s so beautiful when providing a service to hear the words “please” and “thank you”. This acknowledges the service that is being provided and that the service is appreciated. So the next time you go anywhere where service is being provided to you, don’t forget the magic words.

Have respect for the way others are, think, where they come from, their likes, etc. We all deserve respect and we all are drawn to those who respects us for who we are. You can not expect others to be drawn to you when you are full of criticism and negativity. Respecting others is respecting yourself. What we say reflects the way we feel about ourselves. Make it your goal to want to learn about other people’s culture, other ways of thinking, learn about other religions so you can learn tolerance. This will help you to be more open-minded and have more respect of other people’s differences.

Be more giving! Give more sincere love, time, attention, smiles, kindness, positivity and details that shows the other person you thought of them. One example of details is when my father was hospitalized, I bought him a small teddy bear which I told him will protect him and watch over him. I poured so much love and positivity on this teddy bear, it was a gift of love. My dad told me that one nurse said she felt the teddy bear was staring at her. I told my dad that was the teddy bear telling the nurse that she better take good care of him. He laughed.

As you can see, there are different ways that you can cultivate more human contact. You can do this everywhere in any situation whether you are at a restaurant or over the phone, for example. Human contact is part of our wellbeing because we are social beings. Make it a goal to have positive interactions with other people and you will grow in wellbeing.

It’s Too Much Work To Be Negative

Sometimes we mistakenly believe that smiling and being positive is too much work, especially under a lot of stress or when sleep deprived. The truth is that being negative is too much work rather than being positive. Negativity only attracts more negativity. Think about it. If you go to a store and the clerk is in a bad mood, speaks to you with an attitude, what will your reaction be? You will feel tempted to be nasty right back, right? You certainly won’t want to go back to the store, you will have ill regards towards that person, etc.

I don’t know about you but when I feel negative or when I’m mad, I can feel how my body changes. I get hot, I feel irritable, I have less patience. It’s my personal opinion but feeling this way is just not worth it. Being constantly in a negative state is just harmful for your wellbeing in general. It raises your blood pressure, it clouds your thinking and judgment. You just attract the wrong people and wrong situation, your body changes and not for good, etc. One thing that I would like to clarify is that it is normal to be frustrated or mad from time to time when the situation warrants it. In this blog, I’m referring to the constant negativity from the moment you wake up all the way to when you sleep every single day. This kind of negativity is not healthy.

I would like to include that negativity is not only having a negative outlook in life or being in a bad mood. Negativity also includes being envious, jealous, wanting what others have, constantly being worried, etc. The reason why I include these is because nothing good can happen to you when you are envious or jealous towards others. Worrying all the time about things you can’t control or worrying about things that you can change but don’t is just a waste of time because worrying paralyzes us. When you are envious or jealous, you are not hurting the other person by feeling this way, you are hurting yourself. Rather than using your energy on those emotions, you can use this energy to improve and focus on yourself. There is no need to want what others have because we are all special in our own way. We all have our own talents and we are all unique in our own ways. Therefore, there is no need to want what others have.

Negativity does no good to you and it’s not even worth your time and energy. It’s too much work! Instead of remaining in negativity, channel that energy instead into something productive and positive. This will ensure your growth and happiness and will lead you to live to the max.
