You Need Mostly of Yourself

As human beings, we naturally have a need to feel needed and loved by others. That is totally normal, however, despite the fact of you needing others, the person that you need the most is yourself.

You need mostly of yourself because it is you who provide yourself with your own love. It is you who truly know the kind of love that you need. It is you who set the standard for the way others treat you. It is you who allow things into your life. It is you who let others know that they need to respect you.

The reality is that everything comes from within you, not outside of you. When you can realize this, you will see and know that the love that you truly need is within you. Yes, we need others. Yes, others do play a role in our life. Yes, the love of others is very important but even more so is the love that you have for yourself.

Don’t believe that this is true? Well, just see for yourself how you can tell someone so many times that they are wonderful or beautiful or handsome but if they themselves don’t believe it, your words won’t matter. That’s because the words that matter most are our own words. The thoughts that matter most are our own thoughts. The judgment that matters most is our own judgment. You are indeed the center of YOUR universe.

How can you reach within you for that love that you need? What can you do in order to get what you need from yourself? How can you even get yourself to believe that this is even true? The best way is to do an assessment of your life. Where are you at the moment? Why do you think you are in this place at the moment? What contributed to you being where you are now in life? If you do a deep analysis, you will notice that you are in the middle of it all. That’s because you are the one in control of your own life. You are the one with all the power in your life.

Don’t Try to Be Superman or Superwoman

Many of you may have noticed that I have been away from blogging for a while. Well, there was a reason for that. I have been working on several projects that were taking up my time that I needed to take some time off but that doesn’t mean that I forgot about you all.

Having many goals is great because it gives you things to look forward to and something to strive for. However, I can also tell you that trying to do so much all at once will exhaust you faster than you can possibly imagine. So in today’s post, I would like to encourage you, for your well-being, despite all the goals that you may have, don’t try to be superman or superwoman.

This is not to say that you shouldn’t go after your goals or that you should slack on your goals. On the contrary, if you want to be able to reach your goals successfully, you need to not try to do it all at once because rather than add to your well-being, that will take away from your well-being.

“But Aura, there is so much that I would like to accomplish and do” you may say. There is nothing wrong with wanting to do so much and accomplish a lot. The problem is when you want to do it all at once, trying to be superman or superwoman.

My one piece of advice for the beginning of this year is to think of a theme for this year. What is one main theme that you would like to focus on? For instance, mine for this year is weight loss. Yes, ever since my dad’s passing, it has been quite stressful for me and I have been grieving and I did put on some pounds so one of my main themes is self-care which includes in this case weight loss.

Then think of some other things that are also priorities for you that you would like to accomplish and ask yourself why. Write this all down. Why do you want to accomplish this and what does it mean to you? Think about what is one thing that you can do each day to get closer to that goal. This way you know what you can’t compromise with.

So I will give you an example and I will use myself as an example. Since self-care, which includes weight loss, is a priority and theme for me this year, this will include several things such as planning my meals, working out, minimizing stress (stress can cause weight gain), among other things. So as you can see, it’s not like weight loss is the only focus here. There are other things that I will be taking care of because I have that goal of losing weight. By having all these priorities straight, I will know what I can add to my life or take away from my life, what to add to my calender and what not to add.

This will also mean that I will not try to be superwoman. Whatever I can’t get done, I can’t get done and that’s it. By having a main theme for myself, this eliminates me trying to be superwoman and trying to do it all and the benefits of this are many. You avoid stressing yourself too much. You avoid getting sick since stress can suppress the immune system. You avoid feeling frustrated since at times having too much to do can frustrate us and the list goes on.

My highest recommendation when having new years resolution, once again, is to have a theme for this year. What do you want this year to be about for you? What is one top thing that you would like to accomplish? What does accomplishing this goal entails? Write this all down and even know and write down your why. Knowing your why will be your driving force for those times when you don’t feel like doing whatever it is that you need to be doing in order to achieve your goals. Also, having this theme in mind will help avoid you trying to be superman or superwoman.

Be Thankful for Hurtful Situations

Still today my most popular blog post is “Why Do Good People Get the Short End of the Stick?” and this only indicates to me that there are many who are hurt. We are conditioned to numb hurtful situations either through drugs, medications or any other addiction. The truth is that for as long as you ignore the root cause of the hurt, the wound will be there. If for so long you have been putting a band-aid on a big wound, this blog post may be for you. If you constantly find yourself recreating the same situation over and over again, this blog post may be for you. It is precisely for these reasons that you must be thankful for hurtful situations.

I would like to make something clear. I am not implying to allow hurtful situations. I am not implying that you be always happy for the hurtful situations. However, when you can learn to see the value in whatever hurtful situation you are placed, you allow yourself to become a better person because of it and that’s when you will be able to be thankful for the hurtful situations.

Unfortunately we learn more from the painful situations than we do from the good experiences. As a friend of mine, Kay, always reminds me, it’s important to see the lesson. The reason why it is important to be thankful for hurtful situations is because there are lessons to learn. One of the biggest lessons being that most likely there are issues within you that are still unresolved.

It is important to realize not just with our mind but with our heart as well that we are all meant for abundance, healthy relationships, genuine love and all that our heart desires but unless we are willing to do the inner work that it takes, we will continue recreating the same experiences over and over again.

It is a must to recognize patterns in your life. These patterns are gifts from the universe so that we can know that there are things that we need to work on. Once again, unless we are willing to do the work that it takes, we will continue experiencing the same patterns over and over again.

Most of the time we allow hurtful situations to question our self-worth when what we need to question is not our value but our own self-esteem. Remember, the situations and relationships that we allow in our life are in direct proportion to the way we view and feel about ourselves. In other words, we allow things that fit how we feel and view ourselves, as hard as that may be to believe. This took me a long time to fully understand. It is a must to remember that things can only have an effect on us if we allow it. Other people’s reactions and perceptions of us are not our problem, it is a reflection of who they are. However, the moment you allow their reaction to become your problem, that is a reflection of how you see yourself.

One of the hardest things to realize is that the things that happen in our life many times are our own mirror. For your well-being, no matter how hard the inner work may be, it is a must to assess your own role in attracting the kinds of situations and people that you attract and assess how you see and view yourself. This is just one of the many things that hurtful situations can provide to us- the opportunity for greater growth. Don’t deny yourself of the opportunity of greater growth just because the pain seems so much to handle.

I love the story of how pearls are made because, believe it or not, pearls come from something that irritated the oyster. The oyster must remain open if it is to live but in the process, it is vulnerable to things that may hurt it or irritate it like a grain of sand. In order for the oyster not to allow that grain of sand to irritate it, it covers it with layers of nacre, which then forms the pearl. That’s exactly what can happen in our life- we can create pearls from the very things that hurt us.

I would like to encourage you in today’s post to make pearls out of your hurtful situations. Don’t let it make you bitter, resentful nor hateful. All these emotions are just poison for you. You are worth much more than that! What others do, let it be a lesson for you. Make it into a pearl and learn to be grateful for that hurtful situation.

Give Your Past More Value

“Give your past more value?”, you may be wondering. We have always been taught to leave the past behind and indeed we need to leave the past behind but we should leave it behind AFTER we have given the past it’s value. It is this that I would like to discuss in today’s blog post.

The way to give your past more value is by extracting all the lessons you have to learn from the experience and believe me, there is more than one lesson from that experience. This is not to be confused with living in the past. This is NOT about living in the past. It is not healthy nor will it allow you to move forward if you live in the past. The past should be lessons for you. Lessons for you to be a better person. Lessons for you to mature into the person that you were designed to be. Lessons for you to know where to focus your point of attraction. Lessons for you to know what areas of you need to change. Lessons for you to see where you can growth.

The more lessons you try to extract from your past experience, the more value that past will have. Try to see what is the contrast that you had to experience and why. For instance, if you came from a bad marriage, what did you learn from that marriage? What did that partner teach you? What lacked in that marriage? Now take all this and think of the opposite. What kind of marriage do you want? What qualities would you like your next partner to have? What would you like to feel in this next marriage? I’m just using marriage as an example.

When you do your best to extract all the lessons from your past, you don’t allow it to make you a damaged goods. When you do, this is when you allow the past to determine your future and that is not the purpose of your experiences. Think of your experiences as pieces of a puzzle- they help piece out the puzzle of your life and all those pieces which are experiences just add to the bigger picture of your life.

By extracting all the lessons from the past, you are empowering yourself. You are in the driver’s seat of your experiences. You learn to master your mind, emotions and your life. The reason why I write that you learn to master your mind, emotions and your life is because it can be easy to let the past mess us up even more, be critical of ourselves and trip again if we don’t do our part to just accept the things that happen and learn all that we can from the past. Also, history tends to repeat itself so if you want to avoid repeating the same experiences, give your past more value. This will add tremendously to your well-being.

Whatever You Do, Make Sure It Makes You Feel Good

So many times we let ourselves be consumed with obligations and things to appear a certain way that there is one thing that goes down the other way and that is our joy. When we care more about the destination than our journey, when we care more about the outside or appearances more than the inside and what is really going on within, this is when we can lose ourselves. In today’s post, I would like to encourage you that no matter what it is that you do, make sure it makes you feel good.

Why? Because living in the present is what matters. When you make sure that no matter what it is that you do, you do it because it makes me feel good, then you will certainly live in the present. Living in the present is all you have, that’s what matters most. That’s where your jewels lie. I would like to clarify that this doesn’t mean that you live carelessly and not think about the future. This is about having balance. You can still think about the future, make plans to reach certain goals but in the process, make sure that you are enjoying every moment of it. When you do, this is what creates balance in your life.

When you make sure that no matter what it is that you do, you do it because it makes you feel good, you make good use of every time that passes by. Your day won’t feel long, your goals won’t feel so far out of reach, and you will be living the law of attraction. I always heard that the way the law of attraction works is that you need to care about the way you are feeling more than what it is that you want. I must admit, I never understood this and it only frustrated me. It wasn’t until recent that I realized how our jewels truly are in the present. When you keep that in mind, that’s when life becomes more delicious.

When you make sure that no matter what it is that you do, you do it because it makes you feel good, you will be vibrating at a much higher vibrational energy. That is exactly what speeds up the process of the law of attraction. We are all energy. Things flow where energy goes. Good things come when there is good energy. Where there is bad energy, the good energy is repelled. We are more attractive when we have good energy. We are more attractive when we feel good. Life is just overall more delicious when our energy is good.

When you make sure that no matter what it is that you do, you do it because it makes you feel good, you become more centered and more connected with yourself. Being centered is what allows you to make better decisions in life because you are coming from a grounded place. Being centered keeps you strong even when things around you may seem a bit shaky. You feeling good is your NATURAL state. Feeling good is NORMAL. Nowadays with all the things we see on the news, it seems normal to feel bad, to be constantly anxious and depressed and so on and that is NOT our natural state. When this is the case, there is a disconnection with the self. Remember that you are JOY, LOVE, ABUNDANCE, HAPPINESS and WORTHY. Yes you are!

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is that no matter what you do, you do it because it makes you feel good. You DESERVE to feel good everyday. This doesn’t mean that there won’t be days where you won’t feel happy but you are not meant to feel down every single day. If you have a goal and it requires you to work extra hours, make sure you enjoy those extra hours at work. Enjoy your time at work. Enjoy your colleagues. Enjoy your customers. Do your best to view the jewels that you have in this very moment. Your well-being depends on it.

How You May Unknowingly Be Stepping Away From Your Power

Sometimes we do things we don’t realize that hurt us. We all want happiness, there is no denying of that but we sometimes unknowingly make ourselves unhappy. Being unhappy takes away from your well-being. Part of happiness is knowing and stepping into your power and it is because of this that I would like to write about how you may unknowingly be stepping away from your power.

You unknowingly step away from your power when you hold on to things, situations, people, relationships, etc. that don’t serve you or don’t make you happy. I know how hard it can be to let go, trust me I do. I have held on to people and situations for way too long that didn’t serve me at all. If anything, holding on to those people and situations were just a waste of my time and it made me feel worse and worse with time. So do yourself a favor and let go NOW of the things that no longer serve you. It is important to trust that things are still working out for your favor no matter what.

You unknowingly step away from your power when you are not honest with yourself. I believe I wrote a post on the importance of being honest with yourself even if it hurts. Being honest liberates you. It’s best to feel bad now for a little bit than feel really bad down the road because you were not honest with yourself. Honesty can be one of the hardest things to do but it is a must if you are to grow in well-being. It will liberate you from things and situations you don’t need in your life.

You unknowingly step away from your power when you are not grateful for what you have at this very moment. I don’t know how to describe it but there is something so soothing about thanking God, the universe, whatever you believe in, for all that you currently have. There is emotional and mental power in you being grateful for all you have right now. It brings joy, it brings peace and you will feel loved when you live in gratitude.

You unknowingly step away from your power when you focus on the things that go wrong instead of all the things that are right with your life. Your focus is everything. Your focus determines your energy, your perspective, your emotions, your current physical state since mind influences the way the body will be, etc. Focus on what’s right and more right things will come to you. If this doesn’t come easy, just take baby steps. Catch yourself when you focus on the negative things and change it to positive things.

You unknowingly step away from your power when your self-talk is negative. It’s important to learn to be your own cheerleader. Not all the time will those who usually cheer you up be there when you need them. This is why you need to learn to be your own cheerleader and you do this through your self-talk. If your vocabulary consists of negative words and phrases, this needs to be changed if you are to change your life. Be mindful of the words you use and be mindful of the energy behind those words. The energy, too, matters a lot.

This post would be very long if I were to list more ways that you may unknowingly step away from your power but pay attention to one key indicator that doesn’t lie and it is your emotions. If your emotions are negative emotions, pay attention to how you may have unknowingly stepped away from your power. Your emotions don’t lie. Start now to step into your power. Doing this will add greatly to your well-being.

It’s Right Now That Matters

I think we are all good at planning. We plan for tomorrow, next week, for the next few months, even the next few years. What we sometimes fail to realize is that it is not the future that matters as much as the present.

We have been fed the false idea of needing to always plan. Yes, indeed there are certain things that we do need to plan if we are to be successful at certain things. If you want to lose weight, you need to plan your weight loss. You need to plan so that you can be prepared for any challenging moments which will arise. Vacations need to be planned, etc. However, the one thing that you can not plan is your happiness. Planning for happiness is planning for failure and disappointments. This is because happiness is right NOW. Happiness is not tomorrow, it is not when someone plans something with you, it is not going to a particular place. It is right now.

I know this sounds easier said than done at times. You may wonder how can you be in the present moment when perhaps you may not be happy with your present time. First thing I have to say is that if you are not happy with your present time then your focus isn’t in the right place. It is necessary to shift your focus. You shift your focus by thinking about all that you currently have that you can be grateful for. You probably have read and heard this over and over again but what this does is that it changes your focus so that you can start changing your feelings.

What is the easiest thing that you can do right now that would give you peace? It could be something as simple as watching something that makes you smile, going for a walk, connecting with nature, drawing, anything that brings you joy. By doing this, what you are trying to let go is the resistance that you are feeling for what you don’t like in your present life. Although you can’t control outside things, you can always control yourself and how you are feeling.

Decide to enjoy the now. Be present in this current moment because indeed this is what you have. How are you currently feeling? Sit with those feelings. What are some of the things that come to your mind? Be mindful of the thoughts you have. Your thoughts become your feelings and your actions. Also, if you feel any negative feelings, sit with them for a moment. Feel them. Don’t be afraid of them. Observe and try to understand them. There is nothing wrong with feeling your emotions.

The moment you find yourself thinking, worrying, etc. about the future, stop yourself. This is the fastest way to anxiety, depression, and not enjoying the moment. Enjoy what you are seeing now, go out and see something wonderful; don’t deprive yourself of joy. Remember that YOU are your joy, not a person, circumstance, place, or thing.

I hope this post gets you thinking that it’s the now that matters. Everything else is an illusion. Everything else is just a distraction from your present time which is indeed a present. Everything else is a fantasy. The real joy is in the now and when you can fully understand and embrace that, that’s when you will start living life.
